On October 18, 2013, the first of a series of seminars sponsored by CASI to assist faculty in preparing work for publication was held. The talk focused on “A Tale of Two Heroes,” Andrew Wachtel’s essay on the ethnic politics and symbolism surrounding the Kyrgyz heroine Kurmanzhan Datka. The seminar series was meant to provide faculty a forum to present their research and to receive comments and assistance on academic papers. Participants submites a draft of their work in advance of the seminar and then presentes their work at the seminar itself in a twenty minute talk followed by a forty minute discussion period.
